Beyond The Sixth Seal - Self-Titled [The White Demo] (2000)

Melodic Death Metal band from USA [Weymouth/Easton, Massachusetts]
Tracklist:
01. In The Long Drawn Days
02. Drawn From Autumn
03. Enslaved
04. A Revelation For The Forsaken

Recorded at Ultrasound Studios in June, 2000. Engineered, Mixed + Mastered by Joe Clapp. All songs by Devlin, Chappell, Roche. All lyrics by Kwong, Roche. Self-released June 2000.
Line-up: L.Kwong - vocals | J.Chappell - guitar | R.Devlin - guitar | A.Wentworth - bass | B.Roche - drums
400 copies made. The first 50 were hand numbered and had horribly ugly and cheesy black covers.

Beyond The Sixth Seal started sometime in 1998 as a project between Rob Devlin and Ross McHugh. Soon the two grew sick of just two guitar players in Ross's basement, so Carl and Jimbo were brought in on bass and drums. Now they were almost a full band. Justin Chappell was singing for Exceed at the time. When he parted ways, he wound up singing with Rob and Ross for what would later become the Sixth Seal.

If I remember correctly, they played at some local college for a large ammount of people, and stole the show with a cover of "so what" comeplete with curse words and all. Drunken college kids will accept public vulgarity in place of skill at one's instrument. That was the end of that. Carl and Jimbo had to go.

Brendan was working at a local record store when he met Justin. After a 7 hour conversation about Iron Maiden, Justin mentioned he had this band that needed a drummer, and the Sixth Seal would begin to take shape. By this time, Justin had taken up playing bass. The 4 wrote some new songs and prepared to record a demo. Around this time Ross left the band due to 'musical differences,' whatever that really means. (Ross is still our buddy and he visits us at practice) The now trio recorded what would become 'Genocide Empire' in 6 hours, for under a $100 by Luke Vail in our practice studio. The band was still nameless at this point. I've seen a master CD of this recording with the name 'Legion" on it, but no one liked it; they drew a name out of a hat, and Beyond The Sixth Seal was born.

It was decided that a second guitarist was needed, and Nate May seemed the right choice at the time. There was a kid named Matt Bell who sang for a while. Either before or during the Nate period. But either way, Matt Bell's stay was short lived, as he mistook Justin's World War II fascination with being a Nazi. In January of 2000 Lawrence Kwong came into the picture. He was working with Brendan and came down to try out. Larry sounded like Jens Ryden of Naglfar and therefore got the job. Beyond The Sixth Seal would play theire first show with Eternal Suffering and Breedinground.

A month or so went by, and the feedback from Nate's amp pushed everyone over the edge. Nate got the axe and Justin moved to guitar. Gene filled in on bass for a while even though he couldn't really play. A few shows went by and Sixth Seal added Eric as a full time bass player. He wouldn't tune to the rest of the band and insisted on using an unmarked fretless bass even though he had only been playing for less than a year. He was into magic cards from what the band has told me. I never met Eric, but my friend sat next to him in high school, and has on several occasions reffered to him as "that tool I used to sell fake acid to all the time." Acting like a true moron, Eric quit the night before the 2000 demo was recorded. Good times. Good times.

That same night, Larry ran into Adam at a party. Someone mentioned that he had quit his old band, and Larry asked him to help him out. The next day recording started as scheduled. The sessions took 3 days to record, mix and master. The demo began circulating throughout massachusetts and earned the band a somewhat steady string of shows. A copy of the disc found it's way to Germany, and much like David Hasselhoff, the Germans liked Beyond The Sixth Seal.

The band teamed up with Voice Of Life Records in late 2000 and agreed to do an EP. As soon as the new year rolled around the Sixth Seal was back at Ultrasound Productions with Joe Clapp recording 'A Homicide Divine.' The EP was released on April 15 2001, and lead to a successful 2 week German tour in August of 2001.

After returning to the states, Beyond The Sixth Seal are currently completing material for their upcoming full length, set to be released in early 2002.

Brutal/Technical Deathcore band from USA [Goshen, Indiana]
Tracklist:
01. Gangernous Integument

In early 2007, Eighty Thousand Dead formed with the idea of creating unique and pulverizing death metal that respectively represented the old school (i.e. Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Deicide) while utilizing a new, more technical style (i.e. Origin, Necrophagist, Defeated Sanity).

Beginning with guitarists Lee Mullis and Justin Nemeth, Eighty Thousand Dead’s original lineup quickly began playing as many shows as their high school scheduling would allow. After graduating in the middle of midwestern Amish country (Middlebury, Indiana), and recording a locally spread EP, shortly followed by a two song demo, changes were soon made to accommodate their matured ideas. With a new solid lineup; including a new vocalist and drummer, Eighty Thousand Dead recorded a third demo release and has been continuously writing, playing shows, and touring.

With an unrelenting drive, Eighty Thousand Dead’s mindset has always been to push until their musical demands are met and exceeded. Having experienced the restless life of the road, the dedication to unified ambitions has grown even stronger. Looking forward to the completion of a full-length and a constant tour schedule, 2010 is shaping up to be an eventful year for the band and its following.

the sick guttural vocals and brutal blast beats of today's death
bands and slamming it with all the heaviness and intensity of
new school hardcore, All Shall Perish combines these musical
styles in a unique and catchy structure, bringing about a
feeling of metalcore (without using any types of emo parts
or clean vocals/talking)...Leaving simply dance-heavy
breakdowns, stomach churning vocal ranges, blistering
double bass and blasts; creating one of the most unique
blends of truly brutal, heavy music out there.

Orchidectomy - A Prelate's Attrition (2008)

Brutal Death Metal band from Canada [Toronto/Cambridge, Ontario]
Tracklist:
01. Debridement
02. Writhing In Psychotic Hysteria
03. Fourth Blessed Gorge
04. Procreate To Eviscerate
05. Excision Of Pestilent Lesions From A Ruptured Orifice
06. Celestial Excruciations
07. Deifying Anthropomorphic Ruin
08. Seraphic Abhorrence
09. A Prelate's Attrition

The Canadian band Orchidectomy existed for a very short period of time and left behind only a demo and one full-length album. This fact can be called one of the reasons that the band did not have time to become widely known even among ordinary fans of "extreme". In addition, there are some nuances here, because of which such teams are unlikely to become particularly popular. For modern, pampered listeners with high-quality and carefully polished sound, the full-length album in question will certainly seem completely unrepresentable and amelodic with a terrible roar, in which there is supposedly no more music than in some kind of noise. Total underground. Unfortunately (or fortunately, whichever you look at it), such an approach will not allow such people to appreciate the tremendous work that the musicians have put into writing and recording this material. The material that had been lying on the shelf for a good two years in 2008 finally saw the light and, perhaps, became one of the most impressive releases of the American underground icon Unmatched Brutality and one of the best debuts in the deadly genre in recent years. "A Prelate's Attrition" features very heavy, raw, dark and fast death metal with a dirty and extremely cruel deep sound and gurgling gorgrind vocals by Justin Boehm (who was also noted by American death grinders Animals Killing People). Orchidectomy are simply obsessed with the God of Speed - no Canadian band has ever reached such a dense brutal slotting and such a level of extremity. And American formations that can compete in brutality with the music of these comrades can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Being influenced by Brodequin, Internal Suffering and Disgorge, Orchidectomy recorded such material that deserves to stand on a par with the best works of a particularly extreme kind of brutal. Broken rhythms and sharp passages, fancy riffs and the general coherence of the musicians' playing at first make the jaw drop - with the band's technique everything is at the highest, far from underground level. Melody in its usual sense is really a minimum here, but this is more than compensated by energy and the darkest oppressive atmosphere, which can be called a kind of Orchidectomy chip. And the sound, for all its underground nature, only adds color to the music of Canadian madmen. Due to the excessive level of brutality and dirty sound for many, Orchidectomy will never become popular among ordinary metalworkers, unlike its fellow countrymen like Cryptopsy, Beneath The Massacre, Neuraxis or even Despised Icon, etc. Well, for me personally, "A Prelate's Attrition" is much preferable to any release of the above commands.

The brand of raw, ultra-fast, rough and at the same time technical death metal, founded by the unforgettable Brodequin, for the first time in several years again showed the class together with Orchidectomy. This is a diamond in the pile of tons of underground garbage being produced now, worthy of standing in line with the best works of recent years on the path of a particularly extreme genre.

Deathcore band from USA [St. Louis,Missouri]
Tracklist:
01. Shattered In Victory
02. In Desperation
03. Self Induced Coma
04. Restoration

Ahh, We Stand Redeemed, a Christian Progressive Deathcore band that was going to get big if they stayed in.
Unfortunately, the song "Self Induced Coma" led them to disband, after members of Slice The Cake stated that it was highly similar to their song "Squander."

Here's the story from ChristianMetalForum:
The young deathcore band, We Stand Redeemed, has (immaturely) announced that they have broke up as a band. Their latest song "Self Induced Coma" had similarity to the song "Squander" by the secular band Slice The Cake.
The similarity was noticed publicly by fans of Slice The Cake and by the band themselves. We Stand Redeemed apologized and commented, "We are very sorry, this is completely by accident."
Shortly after this statement they deleted this song from their Myspace player and removed it from their upcoming selt titled EP's track listing. Only just moments after they deleted the songs, they publicly announced that they are no longer a band and deleted their Myspace page completely.

"We are breaking up so I was going to ask if you would take all of all the stuff down for us. Also if you know anyone who has any more of our songs it would be cool if you could let the know too. We thank you for all the support and we appreciate all the help."

Notice also the intro to "Shattered In Victory" bears strong similarity to Whitechapel's "Possession." But no matter, because...
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. They wanted to be gone from the internet without a trace.
Well, I say, forget that. Good music will always live on.

Some members of Betrayed With a Kiss portrayed an earlier role in a Christian metal band called When Tomorrow Doesn't Come. Lead by their front-man Dean Atkinson, Betrayed With a Kiss is ready to be heard and to make this a full time ministry tool to further the Kingdom of God.

They also have a sampler disc for 3 tracks from this album, they are no different from those in the album, so I don't see the point in posting them here, except that the cover looks like this.

Point Of Inflection vs. Ichor - Kingdom Of The Dead (Split/2008)

Deathcore bands from Germany
Tracklist:
01. Point Of Inflection - American Idol
02. Point Of Inflection - Revelations
03. Point Of Inflection - Echoes
04. Ichor - More Victims
05. Ichor - Deformed & Enslaved
06. Ichor - Hypocrisy

A lot has been happening underground in south-west Germany in recent years. That's how two bands made their names in the DeathCore branch.
On the one hand ICHOR from Trier, who only formed in April 2008 (with members of SILENCED IN A BROKEN MIRROR and WORLD ESCAPE) and on the other hand POINT OF INFLECTION, THE brutal institution from Saarland, who already have an EP in the can.
As an appetizer for the first long tracks to be expected later this year, both bands have come together to create this split CD.

At the beginning of 2009, both bands recorded three tracks each in the SU2 studio in Illingen/Saar and combined them into 25 minutes of concentrated energy - no neck is spared here!

Because Phil Hillen gave both bands the usual fat SU2 sound robe and can certainly be measured internationally with it.
In addition, both bands only know the straight way to the twelve anyway. Despite the basic stylistic similarities, ICHOR and POINT OF INFLECTION are each unique: POI shows off its moose-death roots with the two-part guitar runs, ICHOR with a little more progressive touch the penchant for bands like DESPISED ICON.

And both bands shine with their contributions: POI open the disc with "American Idol", a song that has been played live for a long time and was already well received by the fans there, no wonder with the many killer riffs from the guitarists Karsten and taibi "Revelations" hits the pit of the stomach with both fists just as adeptly; whether blasts or breakdown: Both are at the upper quality level. And that shouter Peter is a variable singer is already known - from grunts to screams he covers the complete extreme spectrum.
The POI contribution to the EP ends with "Echoes"; another rousing and fat grooving track. Here the rhythm department with Sascha (bass) and new drummer Schorsch comes into its own.
Damn, I'm so excited for the first work over a longer distance - if POINT OF INFLECTION can keep this level of quality, you will surely hear from these five guys on a wider scale soon!

The Moselaner ICHOR are hardly inferior to the Saarlanders. The already mentioned more progressive structure in the tracks doesn't make the songs sound as catchy as with POI; However, once you've listened to it a bit, "More Victims", "Deformed & Enslaved" and "Hypocrisy" bang out of the speakers more than officially. Eric roars and growls like there's no tomorrow and the string group around Alex and Daniel also churns out fat riffs on tape. Of course, with this kind of music, you also need a capable drummer and bassist; Dirk and Chris master this with ease. The only drawback: The sound of the bass drum doesn't really want to please, but that's just waste.
Also with ICHOR one can only look forward to the album, which is expected to be released in autumn.

Together they make a perfect double just waiting to be discovered by the brutal faction among you.

Wings Of Scarlet / Tears Will Drown / With Dead Hands Rising - Words As Weapons (Volume One) (Split/2002)

Metalcore bands from USA
Tracklist:
01. Wings Of Scarlet - Angels Bring Life
02. Wings Of Scarlet - ...And This I Swear
03. Wings Of Scarlet - Overcome
04. Tears Will Drown - Room For Error
05. Tears Will Drown - Drowning In Shallow Water
06. Tears Will Drown - All Eyes Drawn

08. With Dead Hands Rising - Where Wings Become Weapons (The Precursor)
09. With Dead Hands Rising - Where Wings Become Weapons (The Postmortem)
10. With Dead Hands Rising - The Gun, The Glitz, The Glamour

WINGS OF SCARLET: 3 songs, nice metalcore! A good combination of chugga-chugga heavy mosh, nice metal riffs (sometimes chaotic), screaming and growling vocals...  overall this is good stuff and shows a big potential of this band...

TEARS WILL DROWN: This reminds me of PRAYER FOR CLEANSING.  Imagine SPREAD THE DISEASE, some HYMN FROM ABOVE, some PRAYER FOR CLEANSING and you'll know what they sound like... Their last song of three called "All Eyes Drawn" is a great one! Lots of double-bass, nice guitars...

WITH DEAD HANDS RISING: More metal and more MOSH! Like POINT OF RECOGNITION on a metal overdose!

01. Sacred Ground
02. Set The Air Afire
03. Cast Carbon Lies
04. We Scream Hope
05. Before The Great Collapse
06. Killing Tomorrow

Wings Of Scarlet was formed from the ashes of the band, Shoot the Hostage. After key line-up changes, we felt it necessary to change the name and identity of the band as a whole. Both of the guitarists (Louie and Parker) have been playing together for the better part of 5 years. Barry (drums) came into the group when Shoot the Hostage was formed, and has played in more bands and styles than we can name. Noah replaced Chris Wenzel (our former bassist) and comes from the band, His Autumn Falls. Shawn began filling the roles of the two singers of Shoot the Hostage and continues to scream his little heart out for Wings of Scarlet.

We are not a band that is "about" any one particular idea, concept, or issue. We all come from diverse backgrounds and belief systems and find unity through this music. As much as kids feel the ideas of togetherness and commitment to friends and family is "played out," we still feel it important in our lives. If any sort of music can foster the spirit of community, its hardcore. As much as kids like to bash it and gun on "the scene," many fail to realize how good it really is. Most of WoS come from a Metal background and the Metal scenes, so we’re seeing this with fresh eyes. We see its potential, and we hope to realize this through our music.

Shoot The Hostage - The Pain In My Heart; The Blood On My Hands (Demo/2001)

Technical Metalcore band from USA [Milwaukee,Wisconsin]
Tracklist:
01. Searching In Oblivion
02. Charlatan
03. The Lotus Fades
04. Past Ravage

SHOOT THE HOSTAGE came together merely by coincidence. Originally, there was the Milwaukee metalcore band, Scapegoat (anno 1997-2000). It featured [guitarists/co-founders] Louie Pahl & Parker Krieg, [bassist] Chris Wenzel, [singer] Mark Fisher, and [drummer] Ryan Schofield. When Ryan left the band for his new career, they needed a replacement drummer. Barry Jaeger of the band, Lee Harvey Oswald, filled that void not long after. Ironically, Scapegoat and Lee Harvey Oswald had played a show together a few months earlier. Jason Ploez, of Will Build To Suit, is now a second vocalist in the band.

SHOOT THE HOSTAGE is different in style than most of the members' previous groups. This band is an elemental convergence of Metal and Hardcore with some Math-ey riffage and Emo breaks. Basically, it's hard to describe what they are without hearing them, but that's as close as we can get.

Jason Ploetz - Vocals
Mark Fisher - Vocals
Louie Pahl - Guitar
Parker Krieg - Guitar
Chris Wenzel - Bass
Barry Jaeger - Drums

The band reformed in 2002 as Wings of Scarlet.

Writhing Afterbirth, formed in 2007, brings to the table a four-piece death metal slam band based out of New Jersey, formed with members that have been playing together since 2005. With the release of their first demo "Mass Grave Orgy", Writhing Afterbirth took a small break to write new material and in addition to writing and playing shows, added a new bass player to the mix to complete the brutal four-some.
After releasing their first full-length album titled Defaced, Defiled, Devoured, Writhing Afterbirth took a lengthy break because of unavoidable events. Upon returning in the Summer of 2012, Writhing Afterbirth returned with new material. However, because of some more unavoidable events, their drummer had to leave the band. Shortly after, Writhing Afterbirth picked up a second guitarist and a new drummer. With new members in the mix, Writhing Afterbirth is currently writing and recording so stay tuned for new material in the summer of 2014!

Kalibas - Enthusiastic Corruption Of The Common Good (EP/2003)

Brutal Death Metal/Grindcore band from USA [Rochester, New York]
Tracklist:
01. Isolate The Paranoia
02. From Ivory Towers Above The Control Grid
03. No Food Or Water Without It
04. Murder Of High Ranking Extropians
05. Trilateral Preternatural Domination Through World Bank Control

Surging and swelling like a teenage brain tumor going through puberty, alchemetalists Kalibas rise out from the entangling clutches of Rochester's gutter and infects the listening public with their most eccentric yet mature musical statement to date, Enthusiastic Corruption Of The Common Good. Flirting equally with puncturing pirate melody and caustic discordance over the course of the EP's five songs, twin guitars nurture a tremendously technical and distinct spirographic style of stress-addled riffery set to boggle and toggle the controls for the heart of the sun. Featuring an updated lineup, Kalibas has shed the more overt and haphazard "grind" influence apparent on their first full-length, Product Of Hard Living, in favor of superimposed layering and orchestrated maze-like mantras of melody --- techniques which have more in common with recent Gorguts and labelmates Rune as opposed to the gamut of one-dimensional death/grind acts polluting unenlightened eardrums. These five "lessons" seem to romantically crawl down the back of one's neck and settle at the base of the skull, expanding and contracting like an undecided erection patiently waiting to discharge its payload. Enthusiastic Corruption Of The Common Good is a zigzagging showcase of Bermuda triangle mysticism and clown juggling dexterity laughing in your ears, reminding you of the boisterous tickle of shimmering dolphin squeals or of toy soldiers burrowing in your brain matter, obtrusively poking and prodding with their lead bayonets. Integrated, organized, starry-eyed, and misty care of Tinkerbell's sprinkles of pixie dust, the brazen Kalibas have become a clover-leafed magic metal band able to transcend any of the restrictive trappings of extreme music's subgenres, consequently setting them head and shoulders above their contemporaries.

Engineer - Suffocation Of The Artisan (EP/2004)

Sludge/Hardcore band from USA [Syracuse, New York]
Tracklist:
01. Reducer
02. Shallow Water Diving
03. Design Flaw
04. Linear
05. Washington

From Syracuse, NY, Engineer is compromised of three brothers and a brutal dude behind the drum kit. They play an intelligent and extremely loud blend of sludgy-hardcore and noisey, experimental rock that call influences from the likes of Knut, Breach, Anodyne and the Amphetamine-Reptile back catalogue while maintaining a sound that is distinct, original and very much their own.

Fire In The Skies - Self-Titled (EP/2009)

Melodic Metalcore band from USA [Pleasant View, UT]
Tracklist:
01. In Rhetoric
02. Chicago Typewriter
03. We All Burn
04. Problems of Definition
05. Rapture
06. Safety Lines

Fire In The Skies technically formed in mid 2009, but the story goes far deeper than that. FITS is the evolution of Ogden metal band And Embers Rise, which formed in 2007. Featuring former members of Offered No Escape, Maqsood, Set This Aside, and Funeral March For A Marionette, FIRE IN THE SKIES is poised to make their presence known with authority. The road that lies ahead for FITS is paved with melodic technicality, and enough brutality to turn any room into a surging mass of bodies. If you get a chance to see FITS in a town near you, make plans... You will NOT be disappointed.
